Mining

Mining helps us extract valuable minerals from the earth including ore, gold, silver, iron, copper, zinc, nickel, lead and many other materials. 

These extracted minerals are used for a variety of everyday items like electronics parts, batteries, glass, cleaning detergents, bricks, medicines, water treatment, airplanes, trains and even food. There are several types of mining, including underground and surface.  

Surface Mining

Surface mining involves removing soil and bedrock to reach resource deposits. The most common types of surface mining are strip and open-pit mining. 

Underground Mining

Underground mining involves digging into the earth and creating tunnels and shafts to reach hard rock deposits. The coarse ore that is removed from the stope can be crushed using a jaw or cone crusher or crushed using a rock breaker.
